Sau đây là vài cách để chào hỏi và mở đầu một bức thư tiếng Anh cơ bản:
Chào hỏi trang trọng và chính thức (dành cho người lớn tuổi, cấp trên, khách hàng, đối tác kinh doanh,…)

Với người quen thân thiết, bạn có thể sử dụng những câu như sau:

Lý do viết thư
Bạn cần phải giới thiệu về lý do, mục đích viết thư trước khi đi vào nội dung chính của thư. Dùng một số mẫu câu như sau:

Viết thư là một kỹ năng quan trọng trong giao tiếp. Mở đầu thư hay sẽ tạo ấn tượng tốt với người nhận. Dưới đây là một số gợi ý cho phần mở đầu thư tiếng Anh tùy theo mục đích:
Thư hỏi thăm: Bắt đầu bằng câu hỏi thăm sức khỏe và bày tỏ mong muốn cập nhật tình hình của người nhận. (Ví dụ: "I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to catch up and inquire about how things have been going for you.")
Thư phàn nàn: Khởi đầu lịch sự và thông báo cho người nhận về vấn đề bạn đang gặp phải. (Ví dụ: "I trust this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to bring to your attention a matter that has been bothering me.")
Thư cảm ơn: Chân thành bày tỏ lòng biết ơn đối với sự giúp đỡ của người nhận. (Ví dụ: "I wanted to express my sincere gratitude for your recent support. Your kindness has not gone unnoticed, and I am truly thankful.")
Thư chúc mừng: Dùng lời chúc nồng nhiệt và bày tỏ niềm vui trước thành công của người nhận. (Ví dụ: "Warmest congratulations! I am delighted to extend my heartfelt wishes on your recent achievement.")
Thư xin lỗi: Thể hiện sự chân thành và nhận trách nhiệm về những điều gây bất tiện cho người nhận. (Ví dụ: "I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to sincerely apologize for any inconvenience my actions may have caused.")
Lưu ý:
Bên cạnh những gợi ý trên, bạn có thể linh hoạt thay đổi tùy từng ngữ cảnh.
Phần mở đầu chỉ chiếm một phần nhỏ trong bức thư, nhưng đóng vai trò quan trọng trong việc thu hút sự chú ý của người nhận.

I also visited Thien Mu Pagoda by the river. The view from the top was amazing, and I met some friendly locals who told me stories about the pagoda’s history.

The best part was meeting the local people. They were very kind and even cooked traditional dishes for us. I tried grilled corn and sticky rice – both were amazing!

The coach was very patient and gave me useful tips. Surfing is not easy, but it’s a great way to exercise and have fun at the same time.
If you visit Da Nang, you should try surfing too. I’m sure you’ll love it!
